A friend of mine asked me a couple questions today that got me thinking about my incessant need to blog. Why do I do it? What value does it serve? Is it really that important?
Well, the truth is that I have become rather addicted to it. It’s the perfect invention for me as it allows me to use my passion for writing as well as my passions for South African politics and various other matters.
Those who know me know that I am a highly opinionated person. I read articles or hear stories and once I have an opinion on that topic, I find myself needing to express it and what better way to do it than to write about it.
And then, people actually READ it!
They go out of their way to find my blog and read it. It is a major compliment. Especially when one of my friends tells me that they actually read it on a regular basis! Not only do my opinions start to matter to someone else, but they find it semi amusing and they look forward to my next post.
So maybe it’s just an ego boost, maybe it’s because I have an opinion about something and desperately need to share it, or maybe I am writing it hoping that one specific person will read it. Whatever the reason for writing the article in the first place, the most rewarding part about it is knowing that there are people who enjoy it.
So, as I log on to my blog page the first thing I do is head to the stats page to see how many people have viewed my blog.
On a completely unrelated note, I have now got purple streaks in my hair. J
